Marana Offers Second Chance to Experience Senior Prom
Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and Marana Health Center to present Senior Prom, featuring dinner, drinks, music, classic car show and more
For some, it was the most anticipated night of the year. Colorful carnations, fragrant corsages, stretch limousines, fabulous dresses and black tie suits – Senior Prom was an event to remember forever.
For those who experienced the special night more than 50 years ago, the memories of prom can dance once again.
Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) has partnered with Marana Health Center (MHC) to present Senior Prom on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The event will bring back proms from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s, with big band, dancing, days of Doo-Wop activities and everything else you remember from the evening years ago, including the crowning of the king and queen.
Heavy appetizers and wine pairings from local restaurants will be offered upstairs from 4 to 5 p.m., and desserts will be sponsored by SCAN Health Plan of Arizona.
Attendees can “cut a rug” on the dance floor on the indoor terrazzo while sounds of the 16-piece Memories Big Band play classic greats, such as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Duke Ellington.
A treasure of American music from the ‘40s to today, the Memories Big Band members have all shared the stage with the legendary musicians of the past. Established circa 1968, the swing band has attracted numerous talented musicians under the leadership of Cliff Juergens, one of the original Kayedettes and trumpet player in the Sammy Kaye Orchestra.
This Martin Luther King weekend event will be hosted in the Marana Health Center, 13395 N. Marana Main St. The center supports accessible and affordable primary health care services for individuals independent of socio-economic status, national origin, financial means or educational status.
Partnering with the Military Order of the Purple Heart as their “social escort” for 2013, Marana Health Center will honor veterans and spotlight the wounded Vietnam Veterans who served in all branches of the armed forces.
The Health Center was introduced to the Military Order of the Purple Heart when Commander David Alegria attended the Senior Prom last year. Sharing the common vision to honor service men and women and connect with community has brought the two organizations together to sponsor the big night for 2013.
A select group of vendors who serve the senior adult population will be onsite to share information and host “spin and win” opportunities.
