ORO VALLEY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS & HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING

A TWO-DAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATION OF ART, HOLIDAY AND MUSIC

DECEMBER 3 & 4, 2022

SATURDAY 10AM-6PM
ART FESTIVAL 10AM-5PM, TREE LIGHTING AT 6PM

SUNDAY 10AM-4PM
Join the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and the Town of Oro Valley as they partner to present the largest holiday community celebration of arts and culture in Southern Arizona on December 3rd and 4th, 2022, at the Oro Valley Marketplace. The community can experience a vast array of arts and creative experiences themed for the holidays for two days.

The Oro Valley Festival of the Arts & Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration is the essence of creative placemaking, cultivating the arts as an essential part of Oro Valley's identity. The two-day festival is one of Southern Arizona's largest community arts celebrations, with over 130 artisans, over 30 performances by student and local musicians, family art activities, food trucks, the TUBACHRISTMAS holiday play-along, and free photos with Santa in front of the Golder Ranch Fire Truck!

Festivities culminate in the Oro Valley holiday tree lighting at 6 PM on December 3. The festival brings the community together, stimulates the local economy, enhances surrounding businesses, and provides opportunities for local artists to promote their work. SAACA produces the annual event in partnership with the Town of Oro Valley and Oro Valley Marketplace, a Town West Realty property, with additional support by the Lisa Bayless Team, 94.9 Mix FM, and by local businesses and media organizations.

Fiber/Textiles. Designer applique pillows fabric textiles

My work is designed with a wide variety of fabrics to create unique color, texture, and design combinations. Much of my work has a botanical or animal theme. I live in the Sonoran desert and I am inspired by this unique environment. I do machine sewing, free motion embroidery, raw edge applique, and hand embroidery. The main product I create is a  designer applique pillow.  I also make purses, pouches, and small textile murals.

Fiber/Textiles. Woven baskets, pictures, nature jewelry

The fiber art and jewelry for sale at the festival are nature-based, utilizing natural elements and featuring birds and other animals.  The pine needle baskets are woven in colors that complement the semi-precious stone woven into the base.  Much of the jewelry features stones I found at rock hunts, polished, and made into the jewelry or pine needle baskets and pictures.  Nature jewelry includes images of birds or other animals made as close as possible to the actual animal.  I have also woven, knit or crocheted various types of yarn into light-weight shawls and made nature images by quilting.   We have just moved to Arizona, but at the New Braunfels, TX Art League I won 2nd or 3rd place in the 3D category for my jewelry at almost every show entered.

Mixed Media 2D & 3D. Handcrafted Glass and Mixed Media

I will be selling unique handcrafted art made from hot glass using a variety of techniques that include the lost wax method, molding and casting, sandblasting, and fusing. The pieces are sometimes cold-worked with various wet saws, grinders, drills, and other equipment into finished pieces. On occasion, some pieces may be combined with different materials for a mixed-media effect, and may include vintage items. My collection features wall hangings made of glass, dichroic frames, cast figurines made with specialty glass, tabletop glass pieces with stands, and seasonal glass decorations and other small items suitable for gift-giving. I have been selected to appear in several juried shows over the years, such as the Glass National 2017 in Lorton, Virginia, the National Capital Area Glass Guild Artists and Makers Show 2017 in Rockville, Maryland, and the Glass National in Lorton 2015 in Virginia.  These shows were all juried for selection by highly regarded and recognized glass artists.  I have also been a visiting artist at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun in Tucson, Arizona in 2017 and, more recently, had a work accepted in the Dia De Los Muertos Show at Tohono Chul Gallery in Tucson in 2019.

Mixed Media, Wood

I create colorful paintings on hardboard that are representative of the Southwest. The process consists of layering and scraping over and over. It is a technique I developed while building furniture for 25 years. I finish the original paintings with 3-dimensional frames that become part of the final image. I also sell giclée prints on canvas that I hand frame and finish with alder wood.

Fiber/Textiles, Home/Decor, Table Linens

The collection features Provence (French)-inspired table linens—printed polyester and woven cotton tablecloths, napkins, runners, dishtowels, deco plaids. Printed polyester tablecloths are heat-treated to allow for easy cleaning and the woven cotton is Teflon-coated to protect with spillage. The designs are typical of the South of France but blend beautifully with the U.S. Southwest style and colors.

Located in the amazing and beautiful Sonoran Desert on the western edge of Tucson, AZ, I use the inspiration around me to create bright, fun and simple art. Inspired by birds, flowers, plants, landscape features and all things from the nature around me, I use my paintbrush to add an extra pop of color and a bit of humor to make people happy. I work primarily in watercolor but in vivid saturation perfectly complemented by black ink to further release the colors. I love fun, bright, happy, whimsical things and I believe my desert subjects benefit from my interpretation of them.

My lampwork glass beads are made by me when I melt Murano glass  using a torch fueled by oxygen and propane (1500 degrees) in my studio in Tempe, Arizona. Each bead is annealed in my kiln to promote stability. The one-of-a-kind beads are  incorporated into art/jewelry pieces. They are small display pieces (ocean, fish, cats, Covid Heroes, or Florence Nightingale).  They are incorporated into stainless silverware such as serving pieces or utilitarian objects ( seam rippers, grapefruit spoons, pens, wine stoppers) or handmade Arizona wooden walking sticks. Loose beads will be available. Each will provide an individualized, unique, quality gift for the special people in your life.  Donated Covid Hero, seam ripper and grapefruit spoon to fundraisers for Beads of Courage and Arizona/International Society of Glass Beadmakers.

My work is about color, vibrancy, motion and joy and recording images. Each of the All Souls Day kittenz are drawn to bring attention to the fact that that foster kitten lived. Documenting the joy, fun, chaos they brought into the lives of their humans. My Monarchs are documenting the beauty and possible loss of the Monarchs that is coming. My large bowls and platters again play with gorgeous color combinations, texture, size and technique. I make artwork to not only look great in the home, but bring a level of joy and laughter into the house., the sense of well being you can get by having colors that are vivaciously their own, yet playing together in harmony like some type of a big band.

All metalwork designs are my own and range from animals to landscapes. The process for creating them consists of the following: drawing out a design onto card paper; cutting out the design; stenciling it with paint onto 14-gauge metal; hand-cutting the design with a plasma cutter; grinding it to a smooth finish; and bending the final product for a 3D effect. As a final addition, I hand-paint all pieces so that they are unique in color.

In a still life subject, a moment is captured to explore and study the relationships of objects, light, and space.  These paintings invite you to share a  journey through color, texture, and light.  They incorporate the tenets of Impressionism  fused with expressive color and texture.

I am inspired by the Bauhaus slogan that beautiful objects belong in our everyday lives. The objects I create on the potter's wheel are situated on the line that separates functionality and decoration. The medium of clay allows me to explore the meeting point between the modern aesthetic and ancient Japanese, Zen-inspired styles. Inspired by the natural world, the essence of my work is expressed in the simplicity of the form and the spontaneous movement of the flow of the glaze.

If I see something that peaks my interests, it's more than likely to become my work of art. My unique way of seeing the world is reflected in my work.

Mixed Media 2D & 3D, Southwest, Wall Art

I create three-dimensional wall art original designs depicting southwest architecture of pueblos, cliff dwellings, and westerns. I use a free-form approach layer by layer, starting with a wood base and texturing with a stucco-paint mixture to represent rock and adobe finishes.

Metal Sculpture Furniture

I forge and weld steel and metal found objects into sculpture that celebrates the natural world. These found objects are recycled and repurposed into botanical and organic forms, often with an environmental theme.
