FEATURED ART INSTALLATIONS

On January 14, Sahuarita Lake Park will burst with color and creativity as three large-scale art installations are unveiled. Nogales muralist Tony Plak has created a gigantic desert-themed ground mural on the Amphitheater Stage. Sahuarita based artist Pen Macias has teamed up with Tucsonan Wesley Creigh to design a massive chalk-letter mural spelling out SAHUARITA. Attendees can watch the two artists complete the mural during the event. Finally, Sahuarita Lake itself will turn into a work of art with an animal-themed floating art installation.

My work reflects my interest and awe of the natural world.  How plants and animals evolve and reproduce. the metamorphosis of amphibians and insects, how a humble acorn sprouts into an oak tree.  These organisms are all so important in keeping an ecological balance and so under appreciated.  Some of the animals I sculpt are endangered.

Construction:  All my work is one-of-a-kind handbuilt, high fire stoneware with multiple glaze firings at successively lower temperatures.

I use mainly sterling silver, but also brass, copper and gold, in my jewelry designs. I also employ the use of patinas to add color, as well as interesting textures and patterns, to my work. Much of my work has a modern or contemporary feel to it, but with a connection to the natural world through the use of unusual precious and semi-precious stones and organic designs.
