MOMENTUM CREATIVE
CITIES SUMMIT

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & NETWORKING FOR OUR CREATIVE SECTOR

MOMENTUM
CREATIVE CITIES INITIATIVE

Beginning June 2020 - Online Webinars, Training, Networking Online and more will be made available

SAACA is developing a calendar of webinars, training and online workshops, kicking off the second annual MOMENTUM Creative City Initiative launching Summer 2020, in partnership with Startup Tucson.

The online content will be provided at minimal cost, attracting speakers and resource-sharing from arts and cultural partners throughout the country. It will be an imperative program to support and direct the future of our programming for years to come.

We ask that each of our Creative Sector partners fill out this brief online form which will be an
essential guiding tool for the future: https://www.saaca.org/creative-sector-survey.html

To date, we have received over 600 submissions from individual artists, musicians, performers,
organizations and individual businesses which make up our diverse and abundant Creative Sector here in Southern Arizona. Our goal is to receive over 750 submissions before the survey closes on May 31, 2020. If you have not yet participated in the 2020 Creative Sector Rebound and Recovery Survey, we invite you to do so. SAACA will be publishing the results in mid-June.
Join artists, makers, leaders, board members, educators and sector partners to explore creative and arts-centered approaches to building healthy, vibrant and diverse sustainable communities.  The MOMENTUM: CREATIVE CITIES SUMMIT is your opportunity to learn, connect, and grow your individual capacity as an artist, leader and arts professional in your community.

From building sustainable private sector arts partnerships, to innovative art and healthcare integrations, and creative capacity building in education, the summit aims to build vital momentum towards new arts and cultural development and infrastructure in our region, through the collaborative efforts of people, places, resources and passion for our community.

Attendees of the day-long gathering are considered community and business leaders, artists, makers and creatives, who are passionate about building a stronger creative city, as well as learning more about how they can connect and collaborate with the creative city that surrounds them.

Attendees will be provided with an all-access pass to all the networking, culinary experiences, education, panel discussion and sessions at the summit.

WHY?

Tucson has been provided the distinguished designation of UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy for our unique food heritage, innovative food-related organizations, and creative food cultures.

Creative Cities may be designated by UNESCO within one of the creative fields of Crafts & Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, Music. The designation is meant to recognize and encourage creativity within those fields toward the goals of sustainable urban development and preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

Momentum is designed to help us expand on our Creative City designation, and build capacity and infrastructure from within.

Professional Development & Education Sessions
Tools for Change

To develop a thriving arts and culture sector in Southern Arizona, we believe in the investment of infrastructure which helps artists, creatives and makers, at all levels of their career, advance their skills, and core competencies in building sustainable and cross-sector opportunities to create and promote their work.  The below sessions will provide useful tools for artists at all stages of their career to learn more about what should come next, including, but not limited to: financial management skills, communications skills (verbal, written, negotiation, pitching, public speaking), writing and storytelling skills, bringing their work into the new web based world of social media platforms, and maintaining cutting edge resources and peer learning networking systems.

Arts & Innovation Sessions

The arts go far beyond the world of non-profit organizations and individuals.  They are ingrained in each of us every day as we celebrate and communicate through our lives through music, crafts, expression, hobbies, design, celebrations, film, food and creativity.  We believe when we place the arts and creativity at the core of innovation, we can foster social impact and change.  The arts have the opportunity to address and provide solutions to confront, make visible, promote discussion and reflection, show possibilities for action, develop and expand sustainable, alternative approaches and solutions in our communities.  Through collaborative cross-sector work, we can see this vision towards tangible growth.  In these sessions, learn more about the intersection of arts and business, healthcare, economic impact, building a stronger creative class, reinventing our education ecosystem and social change.

Creative Placemaking Sessions

Creative Placemaking is an evolving field of practice that intentionally leverages the power of the arts, culture and creativity to serve a community's interest while driving a broader agenda for change, growth and transformation in a way that also builds character and quality of place.  Artistic and cultural activities strengthen a community, particularly when they reveal and celebrate its character and identity. These sessions are designed to inspire and educate attendees about the power of coming together to make social, physical and economic changes in their neighborhoods through the arts and culture.  This is known as creative placemaking, a vital spark that brings a neighborhood to life, making it a place where things are happening, and people want to be.
