Musical Gold in the Morning
Musical Gold in the Morning is a daily listening and learning program, introducing creative process to K-5 students with classical music played through the school media system. The program, designed as a supplemental music lesson for students, requires minimal classroom and teacher time and is easy to use.
The principal or lead educator may use an arranged lesson plan or may choose to play pieces according to the school’s specialized geographic and demographic needs. The music and multiple listening sessions of the same musical section helps the student understand the shape and direction of melody, the energy of rhythm, the texture of harmony and the color of instrumentation. The listening skills transfer to classroom improvements. Teachers note students follow instructions on the first telling, without having to repeat themselves two or three times, as students learn to concentrate on things other than music. I was in a classroom the other day; One student shushed everyone by saying, “Be quiet, the music is starting!” Monica Nelson – Chief Academic Officer, Amphitheater Unified School District Students are fascinated by the “making of music.” Children learn that there is a human mind and spirit behind the music. This then carries them to similar idea creation and problem solving in other subject matter. I have had several teachers comment that the impact has been so positive that they would like the music to be played throughout the day.
