Tickets are selling fast for the annual community wide food and wine festival, presented by Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, Local First Arizona & Tucson Botanical Gardens With less than two weeks left before Tucson's largest locally-focused culinary festival, tickets are expected to sell out! The 6th Annual SAVOR Southern Arizona Food and Wine Festival is set to deliver a premiere Culinary Arts celebration highlighting Southern Arizona as a serious culinary destination for foodies across the country. SAVOR will once again bring together over 60 restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distilleries to the lush and historic Tucson Botanical Gardens on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 11 AM to 3 PM.
Presented in partnership with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, Local First Arizona, and Tucson Botanical Gardens; all three non-profit organizations strive to educate and promote the beauty and culture of Southern Arizona in their own unique way. "The Savor Food and Wine Festival not only showcases the rich and delicious culture of the region, but highlights the importance of supporting these local food businesses in our daily lives," said Kimber Lanning, Founder and Executive Director of Local First Arizona. "Much of Southern Arizona's local economy is driven by those in the dining, culinary, and local foods industries. Without them, we wouldn't have the diverse culture and economy that we see today in Tucson and beyond." The Festival will bring together stars of Tucson’s culinary scene with acclaimed regional chefs, wine and spirits experts, and leaders in the local Heritage Foods movement. Attendees will also get the chance to enjoy live educational food demos, live musical performances, unique arts experiences, a signature event raffle and admission to Butterfly Magic and the "Out of the Woods" on tour from the New York Botanical Garden exhibit at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Now in its sixth year, the SAVOR Southern Arizona Food and Wine Festival continues to grow in both featured talent and attendees. Last year’s sold-out event brought over 1,300 guests to SAVOR, making it the largest Food & Wine Festival in Southern Arizona. Fine Artists and Live Demos set to enchant one of Tucson’s most exquisite outdoor shopping centers1/7/2019
"Watercolors became my preferred medium because I traveled so much as a scientist. I could easily fit them on an airplane in my backpack," explains local water color artist, Margarethe Brummermann.
Born and raised in Dortmund, Germany, Brummermann developed her passion for painting hand in hand with her career in biology. She worked as a researcher and teacher at universities and field stations across Europe and the United States while also dedicating time to her artistic studies at the Academy for Photography and Design in Dortmund and eventually the Scottsdale Artists School. "I often use my paintings as backdrops for my PowerPoint slides. I hope to make my scientific topics beautiful and thus more approachable," says Brummermann. In 2002, she settled in the pristine deserts of the Tucson Mountains now working for Sky Island in the field of diversity research in SE AZ and Sonora Mexico. Brummermann was immediately inspired by her new home and the unique and unexpected community of welcoming creative minds she found here. Margarethe Brummermann will be one of over 50 of Southern Arizona’s finest artists that will be filling the pristine garden courtyards at the annual La Encantada Fine Art Festival on Saturday, January 19 from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, January 20 from 11 AM to 4 PM. Nestled at the base of the breath-taking Catalina Mountains, this iconic festival will once again bring together a collection of the region’s finest artists to meet and sell directly with the communities that support them at La Encantada shopping center, 2905 E. Skyline Dr In addition to Brummermann’s paintings, festival attendees can expect to see a variety of artistic mediums ranging from handcrafted metalwork and pottery to delicately stitched clothing and home décor. New to this year’s festival, attendees can partake in a series of Live Educational Art Demos throughout both days of the event. Demonstrations include scratchboard art from Paul Hopman, clay wheel throwing from Hirotsune Tashima, weaving from the Visual and Textile Arts of Tucson, tapestry-style mosaic with Andrea Edmundson and many others. A panel of judges will award top marks for Best In Show Overall, Best In Show 2D, and Best in Show 3D. Roche Tissue Diagnostics Community Gallery - Healing, Inspiration and Art Exhibition Roche Tissue Diagnostics (RTD) is an innovator of tissue-based diagnostic solutions for patients worldwide. They are also committed to the arts, and through their relationship with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA), have made art a part of the daily work experience through quarterly gallery exhibitions at their Ventana gallery.
In the first quarter of 2019, the Ventana Gallery will host - Healing, Inspiration, and Art: An exhibition highlighting how grief can inspire creative expression. The exhibit showcases work from over 35 different artists encompassing multiple mediums, including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture and more. This diverse assortment of work finds common inspiration in exploring the relationship between creative arts practice and the emotions of trauma, loss and grief. The exhibit offers a meditation on what it means for artists to delve into the shadows of what hurts, disturbs and stultifies and offer something back that reveals, transforms and restores. Healing, Inspiration, and Art shares an impressive body of work alongside deeply felt and personal stories. Diane Haug, who will be exhibiting a selection of her paintings spoke to their creation saying, “My grown son was killed by a car last year. Since that time most of my paintings have exhibited climbing out or stairs leading somewhere. They aren't typically depressing but I felt my son in each one. I am happy to say that I am now painting sunny paintings again, but these five paintings are all part of my emotional climb.” Another artist Karen Samson will be exhibiting work created surrounding her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Her pieces show an arc of emotions with some pieces such as Acceptance, with its impulsive wildness, reflecting a darker reaction to the imposing medical regiment, to another piece like The Jewel which strikes a brighter note, expressing hopefulness. Healing, Inspiration, and Art will be on display from January 11th – April 9th, 2019 at Roche Tissue Diagnostics, 1910 E. Innovation Park Dr. A public opening reception for the exhibit will be held on January 17th from 5 PM -7 PM. The Ventana Gallery is open to the public, by appointment, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM and on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 AM to 2 PM. To schedule an appointment, call SAACA at (520) 333-4087. All appointments must be made 48 hours in advance.
