Cox Communications is proud to sponsor the Cox Communications Movies in the Park this summer in partnership with Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) at Reid Park.
Cementing itself as a can’t miss summer event 14 years in a row, Cox Communications Movies in the Park returns to fill Reid Park with entertainment for all ages. Come enjoy some of your favorite family movies on a 40-foot tall screen under the stars as well as balloon artists, face painting, and bouncy castles for the kids. Food trucks will also be. Cox Communications will also be attending with a special promotional tour of their new CONTOUR product as well as giveaways. Unique activities will be highlighted and will rotate each week including community demonstrations, special guest appearances and fun activities for children. The event will also include food trucks to provide movie snacks throughout the showing. Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance collaborates with Roche Tissue Diagnostics, known locally Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. (Ventana) to present a body of work spanning 30 years. While themes of environmentalism and climate change have recently become increasingly popular, one local artist has spent his 30-year career putting eco-friendly philosophies to practice through collages, sculptures and paintings made predominantly from recycled materials. On Friday, April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., Roche Tissue Diagnostics, known locally as Ventana Medical Systems, Inc., will host the opening reception for the exhibition David Adix: 30 Years of Construction, Collage & Composition.
This Tucson artist, best known for his found-object sculptural figures, explores the relationship of environment and place and the connection between energy, memory, and time. Pieces in the collection are created with the intention is to create a familiar place where recognition evolves. The most consistent element throughout Adix's work is the salvation and reuse of materials The exhibition will feature 167 unique pieces spanning 30 years, from imposing, welded-steel sculptures to delicate collage created from recycled materials. The show includes work from public and private collections, as well as new work, available for sale. "By working in collage and mixed media materials, vintage and hand-crafted paper, I am able to communicate these places more accurately and find the essence and perhaps a memory," says Adix about his work. The artwork will be showcased and sold at the Ventana Gallery, and the public is welcome to browse or buy during the length of the exhibit, continuing through July 11, 2017. POP: Art in Unexpected Places will feature more than 40 unique art experiences over two days, including Friday night's Charity Celebration and Saturday's dynamic art in unexpected places experience: two main stages featuring live bands throughout the day; hands-on mixology demonstrations; engaging kids activities; interactive watercolor demonstrations by talented local artists; community dance performances; juried art walk; merchant special offers; creative Mother's Day gift ideas; a life-size origami garden and so much more. "We know that business and arts partnerships are an effective way to help build resilient and vibrant businesses, our local economy and communities," says Kate Marquez, Executive Director, Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance. On Friday, May 12, the weekend will kick off with an intimate outdoor celebration, POP: Charity Night, held at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. The highlight of the evening's festivities will come at dusk as the resort transforms into a vibrant 11-story canvas as its exterior walls come alive with PaintScaping, themed 3-D images and animations festively set to music. PaintScaping merges a virtual world with the existing world by projecting 3-dimensional digital mapping onto buildings that act as the canvas for characters, colors, and objects as living and moving parts of the façade.
