The partnership between Oro Valley Marketplace and Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance continues with this community-minded event that celebrates Southern Arizona On March 30 & 31, the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) and the Oro Valley Marketplace, in partnership with the Town of Oro Valley and sponsored by Pima Federal Credit Union, continues their series of arts experiences with the annual Spring Festival of the Arts. This FREE two day festival will feature over 150 local artists selling a variety of unique art pieces ranging in style from hand blown glass and delicately carved wooden statues to intricately woven shawls and towering metal saguaros. Attendees can also enjoy the inaugural Acoustic Traditions Band Contest on Saturday, which will feature 5 local bands battling it out for $700 in cash prizes and a chance to play at the 2020 Marana Bluegrass Festival. Sunday will also featured a full line up of live performances and guests can enjoy an array of food trucks and plenty of exciting free art activities for the whole family throughout the weekend.

The Holiday Festival of the Arts & Tree Lighting Celebration brings two days of outstanding art, live music, interactive creative experiences, delicious food, and so much more for this anticipated holiday celebration. Join the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and the Town of Oro Valley as they partner to present the largest community celebration of arts and culture in Southern Arizona on December 1 and 2, 2018 at the Oro Valley Marketplace. The Oro Valley Holiday Festival of the Arts & Tree Lighting Celebration is the true essence of creative placemaking, cultivating the arts as an essential part of Oro Valley’s identity. The two-day festival is one of Southern Arizona’s largest community arts celebrations, with over 150 artisans, over 30 performances by student and local musicians, family arts activities, food trucks, the TUBACHRISTMAS holiday play-along, an appearance by Santa and endless photo opportunities! Festivities culminate in the lighting of the Oro Valley holiday tree at 6 p.m. on December 2. FEATURED ART EXPERIENCE During the festival Sonoran Glass School will be using their mobile glassblowing studio to demonstrate how sand, heat, and tools all come together to create wonderful pieces of glass art. Event-goers can watch the action unfold in front of them and participate through a safe and guided experience. For $20, participants can make their own holiday ornament alongside an instructor. They apply color to the glass and use their own breath to shape the ornament. HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING The crowning moment of the festival will take place on Saturday evening, when the 35-foot holiday tree towering over the Marketplace is lit at 6:00 PM. The Tree Lighting Celebration will begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday and will feature live entertainment from local students, activities for children, free refreshments, cookie decorating, and a special appearance by Santa! TUBACHRISTMAS Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2 PM TUBACHRISTMAS is a music concert held in cities worldwide that celebrates those who play, teach, and compose music for instruments in the tuba family, including the tuba, sousaphone, baritone, and euphonium. Join over 100 euphoniums at TUBACHRISTMAS at the Festival of the Arts. 2018 is the 45th anniversary for TUBACHRISTMAS concerts/events which are presented throughout the world. TUBACHRISTMAS was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. The Exceptional Turnout is a Big Win for the Arts as well as Oro Valley's Local Economy The popularity of this large scale arts event continues to grow. The Oro Valley Marketplace hosted an estimated 30,000 visitors over two days this past weekend, December 2nd & 3rd, for the Holiday Festival of the Arts and Oro Valley Tree Lighting Celebration, setting a record for attendance at the much anticipated annual event.
The event is the largest arts festival in the region and features over 150 artisans, exhibitors and food vendors. More than 250 local student performers took to the main stage over the course of the weekend to entertain guests. More than 2,000 visitors gathered to see TUBACHRISTMAS perform this year which featured over 60 tubas playing holiday favorites, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Arizona, Matt Tropman. Five original chalk art murals were created by local artists at the event, underwritten by the Town of Oro Valley, in addition to an interactive family chalk art activity. Various children's activities were included in the event, such as crafts, cookie decorating and a visit with Santa. The event culminated with the Oro Valley Tree Lighting Celebration on Saturday evening, drawing approximately 7,000 attendees. "This incredible event would not be possible without our partnership with the Town of Oro Valley, the Oro Valley Marketplace, as well as our sponsors, particularly Pima Federal Credit Union who sponsored the Tree Lighting," says SAACA Executive Director, Kate Marquez.
