4/4/2017

3D Paintscaping Experience, Performing Arts, Dance, Live Art demonstrations, Music and oversized Origami sculptures to name a few.
Kierland Master Association in collaboration with Kierland Commons and The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa are proud to bring the community an innovative and immersive arts experience.  The POP: Art in Unexpected Places Festival on May 12 & 13, 2017, is presented in partnership with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance.

POP: Art in Unexpected Places will feature more than 40 unique art experiences over two days, including Friday night's Charity Celebration and Saturday's dynamic art in unexpected places experience: two main stages featuring live bands throughout the day; hands-on mixology demonstrations; engaging kids activities; interactive watercolor demonstrations by talented local artists; community dance performances; juried art walk; merchant special offers; creative Mother's Day gift ideas; a life-size origami garden and so much more.

"We know that business and arts partnerships are an effective way to help build resilient and vibrant businesses, our local economy and communities," says Kate Marquez, Executive Director, Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance. "We are enormously proud to partner with the Kierland community to expand conversations and experiences through our local artists and creative outlets."

On Friday, May 12,  the weekend will kick off with an intimate outdoor celebration, POP: Charity Night, held at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. Chefs Zachary Bocker (Nellie Cashman's, Westin Kierland Resort & Spa); Derek Biazo (deseo, Westin Kierland Resort & Spa) Siegfried Hohaus (Mastro's Ocean Club); Julio Ramirez (Snooze, an A.M. Eatery); Carlos Garcia (Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar); and Mark Rosatti (Shake Shack) will prepare menu and libation samplings for guests to enjoy. The highlight of the evening's festivities will come at dusk as the resort transforms into a vibrant 11-story canvas as its exterior walls come alive with PaintScaping, themed 3-D images and animations festively set to music. PaintScaping merges a virtual world with the existing world by projecting 3-dimensional digital mapping onto buildings that act as the canvas for characters, colors, and objects as living and moving parts of the façade. POP: Charity Night tickets are $50/per person (inclusive of all food and libation samplings) and can be purchased at http://www.kierlandpop.com/charity-night.html.

The festivities continue on Saturday, May 13, 2017 as POP: Art in Unexpected Places Festival will present emerging and well-known artists in over 20 mediums who will showcase performance, visual and experiential art.  From fashion to origami, live music to culinary arts, attendees will feel inspired and delighted as they experience art around every corner of Kierland Commons and The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.
