SAACA's work contributes to the foundation of the well-being of our community! And you can help! This Giving Tuesday, SAACA raises funds to provide cameras for local Veterans participating in a therapeutic arts based photography program! Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving that allows for raising awareness for philanthropic benefactors -- specifically non-profits. Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance will participate in Giving Tuesday on November 28th this year to raise awareness as well as to dedicate funds to Veterans Creative Arts Therapy Programs.
This Giving Tuesday, for every $100 donated to SAACA, we will purchase one camera for a local Veteran receiving services in the PTSD Outpatient program at the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance who is participating in an artist based photography program at the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration. The Veterans Creative Arts Therapy Programs are facilitated through a unique partnership with the Veterans Administration of Southern Arizona and the Arizona State Veterans Home. Each year the programs benefit approximately 5,000 Veterns in the state. SAACA administers the free onsite programs that include: the Creative Arts Festival, a Veterans Day Celebration, Military Week Celebration, Musical and Visual Arts Therapy Programming, Live Music Performances and Veterans Community Gallery Projects. The Creative Arts Therapy Programs utilize an integrative method to provide healing through the arts using music, writing, visual arts and community arts components. The powerful impacts of the arts in improving quality of life are immeasurable and the relationship between the Creative Arts Therapy Programs and improved well-being among veterans are a growing area of interest in the medical field. Because participating in creative activities stimulates minds, lifts emotions, and often motivates the body, the arts are have become a vital complement to holistic approaches to treating a diversity of health issues. Research has found that actual artistic phenomena – from specific sounds to colors to light to movement – stimulate physiological and psychological healing. SAACA will use its Facebook page as the primary platform for outreach, as all fees are being waived for a full 24 hours on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Additionally, on Giving Tuesday, many organizations, such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be participating in fund-matching for contributions up to certain dollar amounts -- providing opportunities to maximize the power of giving. We hope you will consider donating to the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance this Giving Tuesday to support our efforts, and to help us integrate the healing power of the arts into our community.
